This tweet may be a seemingly harmless ‘social-control-tweet’ that make the original poster look so smart for questioning the work of the police in dealing with terrorist. But did it?

You may come to agree with the tweet even without thingking it over since right know, anything related with the police force is under public scrutiny, and is very popular for public target of frustration. Not that the police have no fault in this, they are very much at fault for being involved in so many corruption and bribery cases (well, those with law degree would scorn me for saying it due to ‘presumption of innocence’  but like many before me, i don’t give a shit).

but let’s get back to the tweet. the english translation would be:

If the police/densus (meaning detasemen 88; the indonesian police force dealing with terrorist) is funded based on their aggressiveness in killing (hunting to the death) terrorist, it is normal for ‘terrorist’ to always exists.

Now, you can read it as it is, or read it between the lines and found out that it is actually a very serious accusation towards both the police and detasemen 88. Let me explain:

When you read it as it is, it simply just suggested that the police and detasemen 88 cannot survive without high terrorists activity ever since most of the infamous terrorists in indonesia has been caught, hanged, or end up in a body bag with multiple bullet wounds. Therefore, they need to randomly label dangerous criminals (in this case, bank robbers) as a terrorist as a mean to move in to the case and be given more money to feed their hunger kids, hobbies, and whatnot. While many people would easily believe this kind of accusation, I honestly still believe in them, that they are really working hard for the country and its people. (or am i really that naive?).

First of all- and please note that this is what i, as a common ordinary people know- the police including detasemen 88 work with fixed salary paid from government taxes. a budget cut doesn’t necessarily means they got less wage, but instead  a limited resource to fund their activities, said activities includes monitoring, anticipating, and yes, killing terorrists. Most of the operatives in detasemen 88 works far apart from their family and friend (source: their life has been extensively covered in newspapers. Google it). it is a very taxing job both physically and mentally. A low rate of terrorist activity may be a budget cut but it should also means a relief for them, a chance to get back to their family and friends. Unless you’re talking about the CO and other higher ranking officers, i then have no opinion. Second of all, a budget cut doesn’t necessarily means operatives losing their job. They are a police force, it is known that officers get transferred in and out of different police force according to budgets and needs. The war on terror may very well be low at the moment, but the war on human trafficking, drugs and stuff are still as high as ever. Their on-field experiences is a great resource.

while this alone is already sick, what i’m about to propose is even sicker: another way to read the statement is that the poster might well suggested that the police and detasemen 88 intentionally let the terrorist roam free, to only pursue them when convenience based on the political climate, it might become a tool for the government to obscure any shit they get from their own doings, or other idiotic politician, and it is a very useful tool as it has been proven by the US. That means the police and detasemen 88 has blood in their hand too whenever a terrorist bomb goes off, or any terrorist related crime, like the slaughter of three on-watch-duty-officers.

on another tweet (and this tweet too), the poster suggests that there is no law for the ‘supposedly terrorists’ given by the police or our government. That any person, including terrorists should be given the same right as murderer, child molester, baby fucker, doctor, farmer, teacher, well, basically everyone to stand in the court. It is true, but not when they’re shooting with automatic rifles. The police, in this case, on field detasemen 88 operatives have a right to shoot any ass who dare to shoot at them. They even have a right to shoot-to-kill dangerous criminal refusing arrest, which is what the robbers are, dangerous criminal. (and if you’re saying the police are planting the rifles then please tell it to the victim families and gives them proper prove or i’ll say to you, ‘you fokken idiot watch TV much?’)

Besides, the police do not kill all terrorists, some high profile terrorists like the one who have their hand on Bali bombings are given the chance to stand in trial.

While it all seems like a novel scene comes out of a conspiracy movie, it is not the biggest problem of the statement. The core problem is that the poster only post statement and nothing else. There are no source of any kind to support his accusation, meaning that it could all be bullshit for all we know.

This is all comes from (and retweeted) from an individuals who has awareness in both law and politics. meaning that their presumption of innocence works only for their conveniences. A double standard which allows them to accuse whoever the fuck they want without a single piece of evidence backing them. Outside the court.

This should shows you all, readers, how fucked up Indonesia is at the moment. Not only the government and its instruments, but the people too.
